a place for you to hear what inspires us, what the current hair trends are in color and styling, as well as any other relevant information that might help you in your daily hair challenges and victories.  We are so very grateful for you, that you choose to give us the privilege of doing your hair, and it is our desire and goal to always have fresh vision and skills when it comes to your hair.  Every two weeks a new stylist will share his/her perspective on something that catches their attention. So, with that, let’s start!

High Fashion Trends:

” My name is Katie and I am going to kick this thing off.  The topic that greatly interests me is pointing out a few high fashion color trends that are ablaze right now.  I love these, and anyone who reads this and has a desire to delve in, please come see me!  I think these are stunning, relevant, and can be incorporated in even the most conservative environments.

1.  Ombre hair color.  This is nothing new to the fashion/beauty industry, and for a year now I have been very zealous over this coloring technique.  Ombre looks stunning on chocolate brunettes, red/copperheads, as well as blondes (my hair is a version of ombre, and I am very blonde).  Ladies, I truly do not think color can get much more beautiful and natural (or unnatural, depending on your approach) than with ombre hair coloring.  A few celebs who are colored this way are : Drew Barrymore, Gisele Bundschen, Lauren Conrad,  the list goes on and on.  Lily Aldrige was among the first to color her hair this way, and she still rocks it beautifully.  Ahhh, it’s amazing.

2.  Pastel Colors/Grey coloring.  Dip-dye, ombre, or all over color, these colors are very on-trend right now.  Pastel lavender, rose-gold, pinks, etc- you are seeing the Olson twins, Kelly Osbourne, and countless images on pinterest showcasing these colors.  Even Kate Spade ads have platinum blondes with pastel pinks in the models’ hair.  It is such a beautiful way to bring contrast to your all-over hair color- and if you have the courage, now is the time!

3.  Brunettes and platinum blondes.  Brunette shades that hinge on chocolate and warm rich tones are in vogue right now, also platinum blondes are everywhere.  You can be a cool  blonde that has a slight violet/blue caste, or you can go warmer, reflecting soft gold/rose-gold/champagne notes.  Stunning and definitely makes an impact.

It’s a perfect time, on the verge of summer, to get in here and try something new.  The bolder, the better! “

“Kyam Gibran, Jr. is the son of Kyam Gibran, Sr. Born on August 22, 1998, Kyam was diagnosed with Thalassemia Intermediate. The doctors at University of North Carolina Hospital, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, have recommended a life-saving stem cell transplant. An estimated $35,000 is being raised by Asheville volunteers.Junior is a 12 year old boy battling a condition called Beta Thalassemia Intermedia: a blood disorder characterized by improper hemoglobin synthesis. This condition results in a need for frequent laboratory tests, medical office visits and monthly blood transfusions.During his lifetime, Junior has received over 80 blood transfusions which have sustained his health to date. Sadly and ironically however, the blood transfusions that help Junior are also slowly killing him. When the body receives consistent blood transfusions, it also absorbs an unhealthy amount of Iron. This “iron overload” can and will lead to Junior having organ failure as too much Iron deposits on his vital organs; his lungs, heart, kidneys & liver. In Feb 2009, Junior courageously underwent surgery to remove his spleen which had become dangerously swollen.Additionally, over the course of time, Junior’s quality of life will deteriorate, and he will not live past 35 years old as complications due to his condition and the “iron overload” effect take its toll on his vital organs.But, there is hope.In June 2012, Junior will undergo a risky bone marrow transplant with the hopes of curing him of this terminal blood condition. The treatment entails 100 days in the ICU where Junior will undergo a series of intense life saving treatments, including chemotherapy, to help prepare his body for the stem cells which will be introduced to his body.After the 100th day, providing the operation is successful, Junior will undergo a series of other very serious treatments over the next 12 to 18 months. During this time he will need specialized care from the Chapel Hill doctors and visits to the hospital every day to monitor/gauge his progress. As Junior’s health improves, his visits will eventually become fewer. This will go on until the transplant has demonstrated stability and shows that it has truly mended Junior.Junior’s family is a blue collar working class family that lives on a humble income. Junior’s family is attempting to raise $30,000 to be placed in a trust which will support thefamily through missing work and relocating from Asheville, NC to UNC Chapel Hill in the next 9 months. This is where Junior will receive treatment from the best doctors in the state who specialize in transplants.For the first 8 months Junior’s parents will need to be with him 24 hours 7 days a week, never leaving the hospital, accompanying Junior through the hardest time of the procedure. This will render at least one parent unable to secure work full time to sustain the family and their living costs. This trust money will be strictly used to sustain Junior’s family through the timely course of Junior’s transplant, up to its stabilization. Any left over funds would be added to a separate college trust to pay for Junior’s future education.With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant families are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure. The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-needy patients. In Asheville, volunteers are raising funds for transplant patients like local teen,Kyam Gibran, Jr.
